How the global pandemic coronavirus has affected my research.
As coronavirus continues to threaten the lives and livelihoods throughout the world, hospitals and healthcare workers are in high demand and are risking their health and wellness for their patients. I wanted to research how the pandemic has affected food in hospitals and if cafeterias were still open. I called UMMC and Stony Brook University Hospital and both are still offering dining services for patients and guests. The university hospital cafeteria and other dining options such as Chick-fil-A and Starbucks remain open. At Stony Brook University Hospital, all dining locations are open as well. Both employees I spoke to on the phone reminded me of the unpredictable nature of the situation and that the chain food establishments like Panera Bread and Jamba Juice may end up closing. However, the university hospital cafeteria at UMMC and the Market Place Cafe at Stony Brook will always remain open.
